Johnson Brothers The Happy Clown Children's Dish Set For a few years in the late 1970's and early 1980's Johnson Brothers produced various lines of what they referred to as "Nurseryware" . These juvenile sets consisted of a cereal bowl, a salad-size plate and a mug. Among the patterns produced were the Peanuts Characters, Alice in Wonderland, Happy Clown, Squirrel and Playtime. Some of these patterns, but not all, were produced exclusively for Tiffany & Co. This listing is for the entire 3-piece set of The Happy Clown complete with the original box it was sold in. The Cereal Bowl measures about 6-1/2" across, the plate measures 7-3/4" across and the mug stands about 2-3/4" tall and measures 3" across the rim. All three pieces are in good barely used condition showing no chips, cracks, repairs, on the cup there is crazing (pictured) stains or other damage. There are few if any signs of past use and there is still a high gloss to the glaze. Most English china is handmade. There is a certain small amount of variation to be seen in identical items manufactured at different times. This is especially true of characteristics such as transferware decal placement and plate size. Any given Johnson Brothers' plate can vary in size by plus or minus 1/8" from the 'advertised' size.
